Come join us for a full-day steeped in traditional weaves!
A full-day workshop pairing two traditional handcraft forms: Dragon Boats in the morning, wheat weaving in the afternoon.
Morning: Dragon Boats
Learn to make Dragon Boats, a simplified take on Japanese temari balls, winding colored thread into intricate patterns. No experience necessary. These ornaments make lasting gifts or tree decorations.
Afternoon: Talisman Wheat Weaving
For centuries, communities have woven wheat into symbolic forms to honor the harvest and carry blessings into the coming year. We'll learn foundational techniques and weave small talisman ornaments to take home.
Some materials provided, full list sent upon registration. Please bring your own lunch; light refreshments available.
Workshop Details
Full-day workshops, 10 am to 4 pm
Dessert or refreshments provided
What to Bring: Thread, and hot glue will be provided
Scissors
Metric Ruler
Cardboard [a cereal or cracker box works well but it can't be TOO thin so choose one that is more substantial. If unsure, bring a variety to class and we'll choose the best weight.]
Scotch Tape
A variety of your favorite small beads: they must be able to fit onto a straight pin
Towel
Heavy weight: a sadiron is perfect but if you don’t have one of those, a brick or something comparable will work. You can find rocks on the land.
